Road-trip Day 23 – Picking Apricots and Eating Pie at Capitol Reef National Park, and the drive to Bryce Canyon National Park

After muffins and breakfast to get the day started we packed up and headed over to the the Capitol Reef U-Pick Fruit fields to...pick (and eat) fruit!  It's part of Fruita, a historic small settlement of pioneers.  It's awesome that this is a feature of the park - https://www.nationalparks.org/connect/blog/capitol-reef-national-park-fruit-pickers-paradise.  Apricots were the only fruit in season, which wouldn't have been my preference but hey, we didn't let that slow us down.  You can eat as many as you want while in the fields and then pay for what you take out.  We had an awesome...

Road-trip Day 22 – More Muffins, Petroglyphs, and a Beautiful Day at Capitol Reef National Park

It was another exciting morning as we ate muffins again!  The muffins (all 7) disappeared VERY quickly.  Tomorrow morning, 7 more muffins!  The first activity for the morning was to hit up the Capitol Reef National Park visitor center for the usual - passport stamps, postcards, and ornaments. The next activity was to see the park's Petroglyphs.  So cool!!!  From https://utah.com/capitol-reef-national-park/petroglyphs - "Rock art figures created by ancient Native Americans can be seen in several places in Capitol Reef National Park. Most are attributed to the Fremont Culture, which existed in...

Road-trip Day 21 – Muffins, BBQ, and the fun Hickman Bridge Trail at Capitol Reef National Park

The morning of day 21 arrived a little earlier than desired due to the kids waking up early...but it came with an exciting treat - we got muffins from the muffin man! (Yes, we definitely sang "Do you know the muffin man? a few times")  When we were doing RV park reviews we read that campers could order yummy muffins every morning.  So of course when we checked in last night, we ordered muffins...and this morning we quickly devoured 4 of them - a banana coconut (surprisingly the best one), two blueberry, and an apple cinnamon (because Kenzie has recently fallen in love with...

Road-trip Day 20 – Drive from Mesa Verde National Park to Capitol Reef National Park

Today we said goodbye to Mesa Verde and headed back to Utah so we can go explore Capitol Reef National Park.  We all played at the playground after breakfast before loading up and heading out.  Shortly after leaving we hit the 3000 mile mark for our trip!  We drove for 2 hours and stopped back in Moab for a picnic lunch and playtime at Rotary Park.  It was a nice break and a nice park.  They had a cool play area with musical instruments for kids to bang around on.  Then we got back on the road for another 2 hours and 45 minutes to our next awesome RV park - Thousand Lakes RV Park.  Once we...

Road-trip Day 19 – Exploring Cliff Palace at Mesa Verde National Park

It's Mesa Verde National Park exploration day! We had tickets for the 1130 am tour of "Cliff Palace", the largest cliff dwelling in North America. It's located at the very back of the park but thankfully our campground (Mesa Verde RV Resort) was right outside the entrance to the park which worked out great. It was a very pretty (and windy) 45 minute drive up into the mountains/plateaus and beside beautiful grasslands to get there. We were worried about the kids' safety on this tour as there are steep uneven steps, "cliffs", and 3 ladders that must be traversed to get in and out of the cliff...
