After saying our goodbyes to Great Nana, we began the long slog to Estes Park, CO to visit Rocky Mountain National Park. We found RV parks in Iowa City, IA and Kearney, NE (apparently the sandhill crane capital of the world) which treated us really well. They were early mornings, long drives, and late nights but we tried to find something fun for the kids to do along the way. We had a picnic at a park/playground outside of Chicago one day and visited the Omaha Children’s Museum on another. The Omaha Children’s Museum was awesome and the kids (and we) really loved it (we only wished we would’ve had all day to play there)! After 1,174 miles (around 18 hours of drive time) over 3 days, we finally arrived in Estes Park, CO and stayed at a beautiful RV park, Spruce Lake RV Park, just outside of Rocky Mountain National Park. The drive in to the Rocky Mountains was stunning and beautiful. The backdrop of the soaring mountain peaks as you drive in on windy roads is unreal. We were so excited to be done driving and start exploring again! This place is absolutely beautiful!
