After a big, exhausting day yesterday we were slow moving this morning. Yesterday’s excitement left us all a little thin. After finally getting ready, we decided to go in to the cute town of Estes Park for lunch at Claire’s On the Park. To keep this part short, it was a tough outing as the kids were in some moods, especially Kenzie. The only real bright side was probably that our lunch was really good – Drew had amazing Elk, Bison, and Beef Meatloaf and Alicia great mahi mahi fish tacos!

After naps we decided we needed to do something restful that the kids would enjoy so we headed over to the pool. The water was freezing so Caleb stayed on the steps with Alicia but Kenzie really wanted to swim in her floaties. She is really starting to love to swim so I couldn’t say no to her 🙂 Once Kenzie’s lips turned purple and her teeth were chattering we got out!

Today we also received a note on our RV, a first of its kind. Thankfully not a parking ticket but a ‘Bear Warning’!?!?!? The night before a bear had been in the campground and left paw prints on the side of cars and RVs, including the truck parked next to our RV. The bears in the area know how to open car doors!!! We got our bear mace ready, made sure not to leave out any trash, and locked our doors tight. While we really wanted to see a bear (at a distance), thankfully no bear disturbed us during our stay in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Tonight we had to make the hard call to cut out Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. We finally acknowledged the reality that our plan for so many national parks was unrealistic, especially with little kids. So to ensure that we have enough time in the parks we do go to, give us greater flexibility, and have a schedule that prioritizes the kids’ well-being, we cut out these two. Right before we began the trip we cut out Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon national parks so we’re really bummed to cut two more but know that the trip overall will turn out better without the rush of keeping these parks on our itinerary. Yellowstone and Grand Teton (along with Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon) are on our list for the future (hopefully not too far down the road), and who knows, maybe it will be another RV trip! Anybody want to join us?!?
