We picked our new campground because it is strategically located in the middle of Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park, meaning we can stay in one place for 6 nights.  It also means we have flexibility on which park to go to each day.  We love those 2 aspects of our new campground, and we love that our campground has a playground, pool and splashpad for the kids.  Not to mention a pretty view, we’re blessed again with a great campground!

Like Colorado, the geography here is stunning…but so different than Colorado…and so different from the east coast.  It is a really cool and interesting looking area of the country…really red…really rocky and sandy with huge rock structures shooting up everywhere.  We’re definitely in the desert, there is not much vegetation or greenery.  And the sun is scorching and the temperature is high…just over 100 degrees, yikes!  Our RV’s air conditioner can’t keep up with that heat during the day.  When the kids go to bed it’s often around 80-85 degrees in the RV.  Only once the sun goes down and the temperature drops outside does the RV start to cool off.  Then early in the morning once the sun is out, the windows are very hot to the touch and radiate heat.

For our first day, we decided to go low key since we got in so late the night before.  Our only plan for the morning was to go to the Island in the Sky Canyonlands Visitor Center (about a 25 minute drive).  The exact location of the visitor center was well selected because right across the street from it is an AMAZING view of the canyon formed by the Colorado River (Canyonlands gets its name from the deep canyons formed by the Colorado River on one side and the Green River on the other).  Check out the attached pics!  The canyon is so deep and you can see so far, it’s hard to really take it all in!

In the afternoon we hit up the pool to beat the heat.
